I'm Siobhan Smith and I'm the creator of the Start Acting After 30 course.  As an actress who started acting after I was over 30, I know exactly how self-doubt and fear can prevent you from even taking the first steps toward acting in tv, commercials, film, print, and voiceover.  


I started acting while working a full-time job.  So, I'm also aware that wasting time is not an option!  I've found a way to work with clients like Google, Nature Made, Walmart, and Volvo while managing all life can throw my way, and I want to help you do the same!

  • How much time is required to complete the course?

    That is entirely up to you! You can set aside a day to watch all of the videos, but there are activities that will require additional time to complete before you officially "finish" the course. The other option is to watch the videos and complete the activities as you go. The length of time for completing the videos and all the activities is up to you - its completely self-paced!

  • What if I don’t live in LA or NYC, are there ways to start acting in other places?

    There are tons of ways! NYC and LA are major hubs for the entertainment industry. However, there are local or regional projects (commercials, plays, voiceover, etc) that take place everywhere. And if you live near a university, great for you! There is likely a long list of student film projects that you can participate in, too.

  • Will this course teach me how to act?

    This is NOT a course about acting techniques. The goal of this course is to teach you all the nuts and bolts that you’ll need to begin submitting for roles. It will teach you the basics of the acting industry and how to market yourself once you’ve completed all the steps.

  • Can you guarantee that I’ll book jobs?

    The decision to cast someone in a role belongs entirely to the casting director and the client. Therefore, I cannot guarantee bookings. But I CAN guarantee that if you follow the steps in this course, you’ll have all the pieces in place to begin marketing and submitting yourself for available roles.

This course covers the most common acting genres, getting quality headshots, crafting your online presence, and practical lessons about the acting industry perfect for a beginning actor.

It starts with basics like: learning which acting category is best for you.  Then, goes into key elements for a successful headshot shoot, including how to find a qualified photographer. Next, you'll learn how to build your acting resume, online casting website profiles, and a personal acting website. You'll also learn the basics of acting classes, whether you need a manager, when you're ready to consider joining the actor's union, and so much more!

There are several interactive activities throughout the modules to help you explore your particular niche and apply the lesson material.
